Ecclectic Table Inspiration
There is something about this table that transports me to family gatherings at my grandparents' house. Maybe it's the dainty crystal dishes of fruit, or the green stem wear with a vibe reminiscent of the Seventies.
The handmade table runner photographed beautifully, and I have to tell you guys how simple it was to create! The calligraphy was written in jet black ink on a roll of brown craft paper. What inspired me for the piece was a passage from the book of Song of Solomon, in the second chapter. The book is a beautifully poetic (and sometimes erotic) portrayal of love between and man and a woman. Here is the passage I used:
I am a rose of Sharon,
a lily of the valleys.
He
2 As a lily among brambles,
so is my love among the young women.
She
3 As an apple tree among the trees of the forest,
so is my beloved among the young men.
With great delight I sat in his shadow,
and his fruit was sweet to my taste.
4 He brought me to the banqueting house,
and his banner over me was love.
5 Sustain me with raisins;
refresh me with apples,
for I am sick with love.
6 His left hand is under my head,
and his right hand embraces me!
7 I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
by the gazelles or the does of the field,
that you not stir up or awaken love
until it pleases.
The Bride Adores Her Beloved
8 The voice of my beloved!
Behold, he comes,
leaping over the mountains,
bounding over the hills.
9 My beloved is like a gazelle
or a young stag.
Behold, there he stands
behind our wall,
gazing through the windows,
looking through the lattice.
10 My beloved speaks and says to me:
“Arise, my love, my beautiful one,
and come away,
11 for behold, the winter is past;
the rain is over and gone.
Everything for this shoot came together in such harmony from the gorgeous vintage rugs to the velvet settee. I am blessed to be part of a group with some incredible talent and to live here on the North Carolina coast where this creative community continually inspires my work and makes me feel a wonderful sense of belonging! Also, let me say that Allie Miller captured everything with such an amazing eye!
P.S: if you are looking for a fun way to add dimension to your table, grab a roll of brown packing paper and draw yourself a table runner! Enjoy the photos, and let me know if you have any ideas or questions you would like to share!
Thank you to all the vendors who came together to make this eclectic and moody shoot so stunning! I was just a small piece in a way bigger pie :)
